About time
Greetings, friends!
When Black Lawrence Press invited me to curate a reading, I knew exactly what I wanted: an all-trans lineup with no requirement to address gender in their work. It’s not that you can’t have a good gender-themed reading, but 1) it’s been done, a lot, and 2) many trans writers, myself included, are sick of being pigeonholed. Trans people, like anyone else, are multi-faceted. We have diverse experiences, interests, and perspectives. Still, I wanted the reading to feel cohesive, and so I asked our readers to engage with a unifying theme: time and temporality.
It was incredibly difficult to narrow down my selections (shoutout to the countless other amazing trans writers in my life!) but I’m really stoked about our lineup: Natasha Dennerstein, Jackie Ess, Cyrée Jarelle Johnson, Zoe Tuck, Connie Yu, and yours truly.
The reading will take place tonight at 8:00pm ET on zoom. I hope to see you there!
