Back in the swing of things + Sit & Write #111
Greetings, friends!
My office has officially resumed in-person work. It's a hybrid model for the time being (3 days at the office, 2 days at home), which is fortunate. But it's still a big adjustment. Not only am I waking up earlier than I have for the last 18 months, putting on what I call "hard pants" (as opposed to the kind with elastic waistbands and grease stains), and commuting ("Doot Doot" for now, bus eventually), but I'm also trying to completely recalibrate my ability to focus. The soundscape of home -- a dog snoring on the couch, the occasional and endearing interruption by my husband, squirrels engaged in territorial disputes outside my window -- supplanted by a unique patchwork of corporate noise. Ringing phones, slurping yogurt, apolitical small talk, toilets flushing, a chorus of keystrokes, someone sneezing into their mask. Yesterday, my first day back, it took me four hours to do a simple task, just because I was so disoriented and distracted. On one hand, I'm grateful…
