It's application season: the time of year when fellowship and residency coordinators sift through towering stacks of pleas for an all-expenses-paid escape from the responsibilities of daily life. A wizened author, on sabbatical from their tenured job at a 400 student private college, wire-framed glasses balanced precariously on the tip of their nose, examines each file with care, judiciously weighing the merits of each applicant before penning a long-form rejection letter that acknowledges the humanity of and extensive effort made by the soon-to-be disappointed hopeful. At least, that's how I'm pretending it works.
Meanwhile, as my fantasy plays on in the background--the literary equivalent of Santa's workshop--here in the foreground of reality I'm collecting links to any fully funded opportunity I can find, skimming the web form to see exactly how much labor it'll take to complete.
