Disaster! Drama! Resolution!
Dearest readers,
I write to regale you with a story of chaos, survival, and victory.
On Sunday, while at the beach, I received a call from my landlord--something about a power outage and a hedge on fire. Interesting. We got back home around 10pm and lo and behold, the giant tree across the street from our house cracked down the truck and fell, taking down our power lines with it. A live wire burned off part of the hedge and the whole block was shrouded in darkness. Gone was the electricity, and with it, our wifi, and more importantly, our air-conditioner. Dear reader, it's been over 90 degrees most of this week.
That night we slept on the first floor, which is cooler, with the back door open for ventilation, something we never would have done at our old place. Instead of sirens and trolley noises, we were lulled to sleep by the hum of our landlord's emergency generator and a chorus of crickets. Yet another reason I like our new house.
