Field trip!
Greetings, friends!
A friend reminded me that the short story I’d submitted to [REDACTED] last summer is still under consideration. Why not give up and send it to another magazine? Well, because the magazine I wrote it for has a very specific and unusual theme, and that theme has rendered the story unsuitable for nearly any other publication. I was pretty pissed about the delay, until I went digging and found a few tweets from the editor, explaining that they were dealing with major burnout. I know the feeling, so it’s hard to stay mad.
To make myself feel better, I’m giving you a peek at “Field Trip”. The submission requirements didn’t forbid previously published works, so I’m taking a little gamble here. Which is to say, if it ever does get published, just pretend you’re reading it for the first time. It’s a little queer, a little violent, and a little tender. I hope you like it.
P.S. Bonus points if you can guess the mystery magazine, but don’t you dare tag them!
