After many false starts, I was finally able to book a vaccine appointment last week. I'd had so much difficulty securing one that when I saw all the available time slots, I thought there must have been some mistake. But no, a few clicks later and my appointment for the 26th was confirmed. I was elated--I'd gotten it into my head that there was no way I'd get the vaccine til late summer at best, given how Pennsylvania's rollout was going so far. This is just how I prepare myself for disappointment: by assuming the worst. Then, on Saturday, I got a call from an unfamiliar local number. It was my neighborhood CVS, where I was on a wait-list, asking if I could be there within the next 20 minutes for an unclaimed shot. "Hell yeah!" I said, which made the pharmacist laugh. I was scrambling to find pants (pents? punts? Am I saying this right?) when the phone rang again. The pharmacist apologized profusely: she'd miscounted the doses.
