Greetings, friends!

I really amused myself this week, as I do every April Fools’ day. Last year my best prank was “Selective Lit,” a rebrand of this project with exorbitant subscription fees and impossibly high standards for participation. This year I set my sights on Blue Stoop’s 4600 newsletter subscribers, penning an “AI-authored” edition that celebrated AI’s homogeneity, lack of nuance, and environmental devastation, and ended with a hidden link to Rick Astley’s “Neve Gonna Give You Up.” I am nothing if not a child of the internet. Plus, the weirder the world gets, the better absurdism feels.

Absurdism isn’t a panacea for the deeply weird (read: hostile, egregious, terrifying) vibes of our current moment. Sometimes you just have to burrow into a complex creative project, or compare notes with an equally baffled friend. I’d like to help you combine both of those coping mechanisms.
