Greetings, friends!
I’m writing to you from sunny Oakland, California, where I’m hanging out in the apartment I used to live in with my best friend. We had the privilege of watching said bestie get married at City Hall this morning. During the ceremony, I kept thinking about how surreal it was to be celebrating this former stranger, who I’d first spoken to while moving into the sophomore dorms. 15 years later and this apartment (and the friend who occupies it) still feels like home.
The trip has been great so far. We started off with a relaxing visit to my mom’s house in Orange County, then carpooled up by way of San Luis Obispo. We got to see otters, elephant seals, and even a handful of zebra, courtesy of the Hearst estate. A couple more days here and then it’s back home to my dogs and what will hopefully be more breathable air than there was last week. I’m having a great time, but I’m also excited to be home; vacationing is hard work!
