Reading this Thursday
Hello friends!
A friendly reminder that I'm attending this event tomorrow night and you're welcome to join me.
Other than trying to attend more lit events, here's what's up with me:
I am still working on my novel, allegedly. I find myself thinking about my characters almost daily, playing out their arguments in my head, unpacking their personal histories, their current aesthetics. I worry that I am subconsciously just avoiding the actual writing part. Writing a sustained narrative is hard; don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I am working on a submission for this contest at Bat City Review. My story is about an older woman who may or may not have pushed her idiot husband off a cruise ship while on vacation (he deserved it either way). The 500 word count limit is KILLING ME. I can't decide if I just should be more sparse in my language, cut out background details, or tighten up the plot. I'm currently at 800 words and the ending still feels unresolved for me.
Zach (the fiancé) and I will…
