I find myself resisting the urge to treat this newsletter like a diary. I used to blog under a range of pseudonyms, but now, with my actual name attached and a readership of nearly 200, some discretion is merited.
Speaking of discretion: I'm feeling a little on edge this week because details from an article I co-authored about a trans student got picked up by some conservative news outlets--I won't link to anything here for the student's privacy/safety. My primary feeling is fury, and fear, on behalf of the student being targeted in these articles. But my secondary feeling is frustration at seeing my (and my co-author's) work taken out of context, especially to incite abuse. Which has me asking: what happens to our writing once it's out the door? How do we make sense of the ripples that follow the initial splash of publication?
