Greetings, friends!
I'm emailing from my mother-in-law's handcrafted tiny home in Port Townsend, Washington. We got into town Saturday night, after a week in Orange County with my family. It's been so good to have (almost) no responsibilities for a couple weeks. In the absence of a million projects and errands clouding my thinking, I started to get ideas about the novel. And solving plot problems. And understanding the story's world. And hearing how the characters speak to each other. I've been too busy spending time with family or driving around new and familiar cities to sit in front of the laptop. And the last few days we've been staying somewhere without wifi, which means my fussy little chromebook won't let me edit documents. So I've been stuffing my phone with notes while I wait, growing itchy and slightly aggravated.
I realized yesterday that the unsettled feeling I've been having was just... missing writing. Which isn't particularly special, except that I have historically had …
