Sit & Write #138
Greetings, friends!
After more than 4 years of doing the 9-5 thing, I find my days suddenly unstructured. While I certainly need some rest and recovery time, I also need to give my life some kind of shape. UX writing class has helped with that, as have weekly therapy appointments and Sit & Write sessions. But that really only covers 4-5 hours a week. The rest of the time is fillable--homework, freelance gigs, creative projects, etc., and (un)fortunately it's up to me to decide when I do what and for how long. The idea of sitting still for 8 hours working on one thing is repellent, though that's nothing new.
So, I'm experimenting with allowing my attention to wander. If I make myself to sit in front of my laptop and check my email in the morning, it's very likely that I will get distracted a few minutes in. Maybe it's a brief social media distraction, but more likely it's my business brain telling me to tend to other important parts of my life: following up with the landlord about a home…
