Greetings, friends!
I'm happily writing to you from my studio at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. It's rainy outside, but I'm warm and comfortable in this private room, a cement-floored space with a big rug, a cozy recliner, 2 desks, a small bed for literary napping, several strategically-placed lamps, and a mini split set to 70 degrees. I also have a bedroom on the other side of campus that's surprisingly fancy, en suite and all. The food is good, the people are friendly, and the scenery is gorgeous. My only complaint is that the infamous VCCA cows have been relocated for the winter, but as far as "inconveniences" go, that's a pretty minor one. I get the sense that many of the other fellows are returning for the umpteenth time, which gives the place a sense of lasting culture. It also relieves some of the pressure to be perfectly productive while I'm here, since it seems like I can come back another time in the future.
