As long-time readers will recall, I left my full-time job in April to pursue a career change via a UX Writing bootcamp. The course wrapped up last month, and I started putting out dozens upon dozens of applications. I had a couple first interviews, both of which I'm waiting to hear back about, but apart from those, I haven't gotten any traction. Job searching is the weirdest—you're supposed to roll up to an interview and sell yourself as a vital asset to the employer, without revealing how nervous or inexperienced you may feel. You're not supposed to say that you want to work there because they have good Glassdoor reviews, or because the salary is appealing, or because they're willing to let you work from home, or because they'll give you health insurance. You're just supposed to pretend like its your lifelong dream to spend 40 hours a week rewriting small bits of text for a massive corporation.
