Greetings friends!
Our backyard is super lush right now, with lush towering oak trees on all sides. Today on my lunch break I sat out on the deck and basked in the sunny spots, watching the trees swaying in the strong wind. When I held still long enough, I could see the trunks waving back and forth. Just as I closed my eyes to sunbathe my little lizard body, a good sized stick snapped off a tree toward the back of the yard, crashing to the ground. Not a massive branch but maybe one thick enough to wrap a hand around. A jolt of anxiety shot through me as I looked up at the countless branches of unknown sturdiness swinging overhead. I remembered why I'd enjoyed living in cities for long -- the minimized threat of random, nature-based violence. I debated going back inside where at least the roof would protect me, then realized that this was an anxious spiral and that it was fine to stay outside in the sun, where I really wanted to be.
